Dr. Hicks earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Davidson College. He graduated cum laude from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the renowned Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN.

In addition, Dr. Hicks has had additional, intensive training in complex spinal surgery through an orthopedic and neurosurgical fellowship at University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, and the AO Spine International

A South Carolina native, Dr. Hicks has extensive expertise in the surgical treatment of the neck and back. A fellowship-trained and board-certified spine surgeon, his philosophy centers around using appropriate care to help patients recover without surgery whenever possible– and technical excellence when surgery is required.

Dr. Hicks enjoys spending time with his family, cycling, whitewater kayaking and exploring Western North Carolina.

Dr. Hicks discussed current advances in spine surgery, including 3D imaging, computer navigation, and robotic assistance, and how integrating these newer platforms will impact the field of spine surgery.
