Dr. Rebecca Demorest received her undergraduate degree, cum laude, from The University of Pennsylvania and her medical degree, where she was AOA, at the University of Pittsburgh. She completed her pediatrics residency at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and her pediatric sports medicine fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics.
A pediatric and young adult primary care non-operative sports medicine specialist, who also specializes in sports concussions, Dr. Demorest came to EmergeOrtho after practicing in the San Francisco Bay Area for many years. While most recently on staff at a large orthopedics practice, she simultaneously worked as a pediatric urgent care physician, an affiliate physician in pediatrics at Stanford Health Care Valley Care Hospital and as a team physician for the United States National Rowing Team and high school club rowing team, Oakland Strokes, among other roles.
Her prior bicoastal experience includes serving as the Medical Director of Pediatric Sports Medicine at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC, in New York, NY, as an assistant attending physician in the Women’s Sports Medicine Center at the Hospital for Special Surgery where she was an assistant professor of pediatrics at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and as Associate Director of Pediatric and Young Adult Sports Medicine at Oakland Children’s Hospital (now UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital) in Oakland, CA.
Dr. Demorest treats all types of overuse and acute muscle, tendon, ligament and bone injuries, along with pain issues. She sees patients for stress fractures (such as spondylolysis, runners’ stress fractures, gymnasts’ wrists, little league shoulder etc.), as well as a myriad of sports medicine issues (including but not limited to concussions, female athlete bone health issues, medical sports medicine concerns, and nutrition and performance issues.)
Dr. Demorest has also been an elected member of the executive council for the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Council on Sports Medicine and Fitness, where she served as the education chair, developing and implementing various AAP sports medicine CME programs through the COSMF.
An accomplished athlete, she was an all-American/academic swimmer, a gold medalist at Scholastic National Rowing Championships, MVP of the varsity women’s rowing team at Penn, and a bronze medalist at National Collegiate Rowing Championships. She was also recently inducted into her Pennsylvania high school’s athletic hall of fame for her rowing accomplishments. She is a prolific lecturer, teacher, presenter and peer reviewer who has written and edited on a range of pediatric sports medicine topics, and conducted original research in her field. She has been quoted and interviewed for numerous print articles and radio and TV news programs.
